Con-Tech

Con-Tech officially organized and formed their inaugural board of directors on June 25, 2014. 

The board includes eleven members of the Salem-Keizer communitym including Cherry City Interiors & Design, who bring vast amounts of knowledge from varying industries including construction, home finishing, real estate, law, banking, accounting, and insurance – as well as a strong desire to build a hands on program in our local high schools that provides the training and knowledge for the students to succeed in the construction and real estate industries after they graduate.

Which floor "wood" you like?

Getting the look of a wood floor has never been easier! Read the pros and cons below to help you decide which floor you would like.

Hardwood

PROS:

-Can add considerable value to a home

-Can be repaired or resurfaced

-Could last over 100 years if properly cared for

CONS:

-Usually more expensive to buy and install

-Susceptible to scratching and may show wear in -high traffic areas

Laminate

PROS:

-Usually considerably less to purchase and install

-Usually more resistant to scratches and moisture

-Very easy to clean

CONS:

-Doesn't repair easily

-Cannot be refinished but can be touched up

Bamboo

PROS:

-Environmentally friendly product, sustainably harvested

-Insect resistant

-Exotic look, yet affordable

CONS:

-Most bamboo is produced in countries where there are no set government  standards.

-Some exports may contain urea formaldehyde

Tile

PROS:

-Clean; Doesn't attract dirt, dust, pollen or allergens

-Relatively easy to repair/ replace

-Durable.

CONS:

-Offers a cold, hard walking surface

-Can be loud or slippery

LVT

PROS:

-Superior scratch, stain and wear resistance.

-Easier to install than traditional tile.

-Will mold or fit to sub-floor irregularities

CONS:

-Sometimes it’s hard to find a matching transition piece

-It’s not a natural product

Vinyl

PROS:

-Low cost.

-Low maintenance.

-Water and stain resistant

CONS:

-Does not stand up well under heavy loads.

-Can be damaged by sharp objects or too much direct sunlight

1950's Home Remodel

This afternoon I would like to share a home remodel that is very special to me. For starters I'm in love with anything old and vintage and I'm thrilled to share this home with you!

One of our builders/remodelers brought this beauty to us at Cherry City Interiors & Design for all of his interior needs, including carpet, vinyl, countertops and design ideas...just to name a few! I was fortunate to be brought on to help with product selection and it grew from there-- both my adoration for the house and the design!

Located in Salem, across from the historic and notable Oregon State Hospital, this house was in poor shape and needed much TLC. That's exactly what we gave her; a whole new makeover--from top to bottom!











The process for selecting materials for your home is quite simple but can be extremely overwhelming-- and we understand that COMPLETELY!!. Start from the floors and move upwards, always coordinating each room to create a seamless flow--this is especially true in a small home but is relevant with any size house. Each room should feel somewhat connected to the next.


This can be done through several ways and are listed below:

1. Same Flooring- In this house, the entry had a beat up parquet floor which connected to a beautiful original hardwood floor. They both were in dire need of a sprucing up! 

2. Paint Color Scheme- By using the same paint throughout, each room visually merges with the other. For the kitchen, the heart of the home, we decided to paint the cabinets a beautiful and striking 50's green! Boy, it took your breath away and brought you right back into the 1950's era.

Hey Everyone!!

It's been over a year since we last met...WOW!

Well it's been crazy here at Cherry City Interiors & Design and in a good way!! We've done some changing to our showroom with a complete floor remodel, hired two new wonderful gals, Jodi and Angee and we've been busier than in years past...YEAH! 

Just to get back into the swing of writing my blog, I wanted to share with you this beautiful new line from ztilestone. Cherry City Interiors & Design has exclusive rights to showcase this in our showroom and we're excited to share them with you!

There are plenty of other mosaics than the 9 pictured above...and they are all just as beautiful. These can make an incredible impact in many areas of your home, from a full height kitchen backsplash to a decorative band in your shower- these beauties can really make a statement!

Beach style with pizzazz!

I am absolutely in love with HGTVs Smart Home, located in the Jacksonville Beach community of Paradise Key South Beach.

The color palette used in the house in sensational. The design focuses on High Regency and is flavored with sea-inspired colors!

Something that is extremely important when choosing paint colors for your home is making sure that all of the rooms flow together. Otherwise your house can feel choppy and the color may seem like an after thought instead of cohesive.

So let's see these photos! These are a great way to see a great color palette that works well in every part of the home.

 

 

Out of the entire home, this is probably one of my favorite places. The blue and white geometric patterned wall reminds me of a college project a friend and I did to dress up our campus apartment. It is extremely easy to execute and adds character to any room.

 



One thing that I want to note, is that the majority of home owners paint their ceilings white! Here is a great example of how to paint your ceilings the same color as the walls and it still looks bright and airy. Of course, I would recommend this paint option if the colors were dark, but it sure does look fabulous in this beautiful dining room.

 

The kitchen features white cabinets paired with a stunning soft blue wall and rich, warm wood floors. The space is warm and inviting with the neutral color palette and is set off by a pop of orange!

 

Another important design factor in creating cohesion is the use of textured items. The wicker chairs are a superb feature adding a much needed texture to the space.

Green with Envy

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and Cherry City Interiors & Design would like to know how you will be celebrating this festively green holiday.

When it comes to decorating your interior during the holiday, sometimes a nod to theme is best than a literal adornment of decorations.

St. Patrick’s Day can be a tricky holiday to achieve this. Here are several ways you can have your shamrock shake and eat it too!

No longer do you need to search in the yard for your lucky four leaf clover, because there is a great architectural element called the quatrefoil. The word quatrefoil means “four leaves” in Latin, which can easily be associated with the lucky four leaf clover.

The quatrefoil mirrored credenza and quatrefoil lumbar pillow add a repetitive pattern in this traditional meets mid-century space.

Every aspect of this space has some sort of structured shape to it, so it was cleverly designed to utilize the quatrefoil in the coffee table to continue featuring geometric shapes throughout the space.

Below are some great pieces of furniture that could be used to decorate your home during this holiday.

There is also the option of designing your home for St. Patrick's Day in the literal sense. Adding anything green to your home can correlate to the holiday themed colors, but also just because if you are like me, you love GREEN!

 I LOVE this green, black & white color scheme. This is a little on the extreme side and a commitment, but definitely tolerable. The green is used as the accent and as you can see, the show stopper.


The geometric upholstery on the chair adds a little pizzaz to the kitchen. A great way to incorporate these bold colors is in items that can easily be changed out. This is especially important to remember because like most of us, our taste changes over time.



The above photographs are some easy to change literal interpretations of the holiday. These items can be put away as the festivities pass, making it easier to celebrate the holiday in style.
